To date, sunflower is 37.1 % planted out of the 1,900,000 hectares projected for the current season. In absolute numbers, 700,000 hectares have already been sown, especially in the north and center of the country. The most developed crops are differentiating leaves under heterogeneous moisture conditions.
Lack of moisture in the NOA and NEA regions and in Córdoba has begun to affect the potential yields of crops. However, recent precipitations over the north and south of La Pampa and the west, southwest and southeast of Buenos Aires have helped replenish the moisture of crops currently at tillering or stem elongation stage.
Recent precipitations over the south of Buenos Aires and La Pampa have helped replenish the moisture of crops under phenological stages (from leaf differentiation to stem elongation). However, moisture is tight in regions of the center of the country, thus affecting the normal development of crops.
Over the last week, the planting of early corn continued expanding into the agricultural area. The planting progress was mainly observed in the north-center of Santa Fe, the north belt and the east-center of Entre Rios. Under this scenario, we maintain our final production estimate for the 2018/19 season at 5.800.000 hectares, up 400.000 hectares YoY. (Season 2017/18: 5.400.000 Hectares).
At the beginning of the perspective, northerly winds will rotate towards the North. They will bring abundant atmospheric humidity and cloudiness. At the same time, the entry of a Pampero front will bring precipitations to most part of the agricultural region, with the exception of the east-center of the area. Coupled with the front, winds coming from the southwest will moderately drop temperatures over most part of the Ag. region.
